Happy 4th of July everyone!
We hope you have a safe and fantastic weekend.
Everyone knows on July 4th, we go out and buy fireworks, but do you all know the significance behind it? Yes, there is one.
On Independence Day in 1776, before the Declaration of Independence was signed, John Adams envisioned fireworks as part of these festivities. In a letter he wrote to Abigail Adams, he wrote that the occasion should be commemorated.
“The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”
John Adams was correct that it started from that time forward till now, and we hope the tradition continues. Not only because of the festivities of playing with the fireworks, but to continue knowing that that day signified our independence from under Great Britain’s rule.
Our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence that day to establish our rights as the citizens of the United States of America.
Happy Independence Day America!
